"BE A DECTECTIVE" EXTRA CREDIT RESPONSE

I had found a lot of really good information about William Shakespeare, like for Example William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, allegedly on April 23rd, 1564. William Shakespeare was then baptized in a Holy Trinity Church on April 26th, 1564, 3 days after he was born. William Shakespeare’s Father who was John Shakespeare was a Glover and a Leather Merchant. Meanwhile his mother Mary Arden was a landed local heiress. I thought that this was interesting because how did William Shakespeare become The Greatest Writer alive, if his Father was a Leather Merchant and his mother was the Landed Local Heiress? They probably didn’t have any time to teach him how to read or write, but that was what school for them was.

William Shakespeare appeared to be the third of eight children in the Shakespeare’s household, but 3 of his siblings had died in their early child hood. The two children that John and Mary had given birth to before William Shakespeare had died in their early ages, so when William Shakespeare was born, he was their first child that they really had taken care of. William Shakespeare had attended the free grammar school in Stratford, where he was well educated to learn how to read and write. But William had never gone on to University Schooling, which we now call College. I thought that William Shakespeare’s child hood life was really bad because he had 3 siblings that had died, and he didn’t even meet two of his siblings because they were born before him. Also I thought that William Shakespeare had a rough child hood because he probably didn’t have many friends to hang out with, so he just stayed home and practiced his Language skills. But that had paid off very well because he is the Greatest Writer Alive today. I learned that Later on in William Shakespeare's Life he had gotten married to his wife named Anne Hathaway on November 28, 1582. I thought that this was cool, because there is an actress named Anne Hathaway, and I just thought it could’ve been a coincidence. William was at the age of 18 when he got married to Anne, and Anne was at the age of 26 when she had married William. Anne Hathaway was pregnant with William’s baby when they had gotten married, so about 5-6 months later their very own baby was born. Susanna was born on May 26th, 1583; she was William’s first baby. William and Anne later had twins named Hamnet and Judith. Hamnet and Judith were born on February 2nd, 1585. Hamnet died at the age of 11, on August 11th, 1596.

In 1592 also known as the "Lost Years", William Shakespeare came to London and had established himself as an actor and playwright. By 1954, William Shakespeare was acting, writing plays for Lord Chamberlain's Men (called the king's men after the ascension of James the first is 1603), and he was a managing partner in the operation as well. William Shakespeare’s play went public and was very popular that year. I thought that William Shakespeare had been inspired to write sonnets and books based on the plays that he wrote, or he wrote plays based on the books that he had written. Also I thought that William Shakespeare only stayed in this business because he wanted to do it for the money, like for example if his plays went public and a lot of people came to see it, then he would make a lot of money from the stuff that he had written.

William Shakespeare had written 154 sonnets, 4 poems, and 37 plays. So in total he had written 195 pieces of Literature that he has written. I thought that William Shakespeare had written so many plays because it was mostly based on his Life, Childhood, Love, etc. I also think that William Shakespeare probably always had a piece of paper and a pen with him so that he could jot down notes, ideas, and information to add to his sonnet, poem, or play.

I had learned a lot from this “Be a Detective Extra Credit” because I learned a lot of stuff that I didn’t know about William Shakespeare before, such as I learned that he was the third of eight children and three of his siblings had died and two of his siblings that were older than him had died in their early ages. I also learned that William Shakespeare was also married to his wife named Anne Hathaway which is also an actress’s name, and I thought this was very fascinating. Also I thought this helped me a little to understand more about William Shakespeare’s life more about why he had written Romeo &Juliet, and I think whoever doesn’t understand Romeo & Juliet, then they should look up William Shakespeare’s Biography and they would probably learn more about his writing and his writing techniques.

Response to 3 Blog Posts #2

The first blog that I had went on was Serina's Blog. I thought Serina's 2nd draft of her Reading Response was interesting, because she didnt tell us alot about what the book was about. I thought that she didnt tell us alot about the book was because she maybe didnt want to spoil it for us, and also because she wanted us to read the book.

The second blog that i had went on was Amani's Blog. I thought Amani had put in alot of Thought and Effort into her writing, especially with details. Also I liked how she could relate her own life to Miles (the character in her story) Life and to the book.

The third and last blog that I had went on was Kamillah's Blog. I thought that Kamillah had made her post very short and simple with some details. Because first off she made her post very nice and childish, like it was talking about little kids. But then she started talking about when your getting older and im guessing when people go through puberty, all of your thoughts change, and you get more mature (well atleast most of us). Also you dont get those childish thoughts anymore about playing at the park, but its natural to get those thoughts once in a while. Then she wraps it up with her opinon and how she feels about the response she was writing to. (My Papa's Waltz)

So to Everyone that I had written about, or even if I didnt write about. Good Job and Keep up the Good Work.

READING RESPONSE ESSAY REVISED

My reading response is to a book I am reading, and the book is called "Handbook for Boys" by Walter Dean Myers. This book is about the right roads to choose in life, and not to pick bad choices in life. When i first read this book, i thought it was going to be a book about steps to take for boys about your life. But instead the characters in this book talk about these deep thoughts in a barber shop that Duke owns. Duke is a very rich man who is also the person who owns the barbershop and has his own community mentoring program. He also has taken two kids into his program named Jimmy and Kevin. Kevin is older than Jimmy and is a senior in High School. While Jimmy is probably in his sophomore year.

Jimmy is a kid who has been given a second chance and not going to Jail for assault on another student in his school. His Mentor Duke Wilson has given Jimmy another chance by taking him into his own community mentoring program, because he thinks that Jimmy could have a good life and be successful in life. Also Duke thinks that if he helps Jimmy out and take him into his community mentoring program and not got to Jail, then he wouldn't end up living in the streets and maybe not ending up in jail. But instead Jimmy would have a successful life and have a successful job with a successful wife and family. I observed that Duke is a really nice guy because hes spending a lot of money from his own pocket on these kids because he thinks they have potential to have a nice life, and not end up in the streets being either dead, in rehab or in prison. I thought that Duke is helping Jimmy because he didn't want to see good kids like Jimmy go to jail, because he knows that if he helps the kids out, then they probably wouldn't do the stuff that the people in the hood do such as selling weed, fighting, stealing, etc. Even though Jimmy disrespects Duke sometimes, Duke still is trying to mentor Jimmy because he knows he could change him. Even if he cant change how he acts, Duke knows he could change the way Jimmy feels about some stuff like personal issues, fighting, robbing, and everything else that they talk about in the barbershop. I also thought that Duke had a rough child hood of his own, and he now knows the right roads to choose and not to choose the wrong roads in life because he probably have been through this before and he just wants to pass on what he knows to kids that he thinks are going through the same problem that he had went through as a child and help them.

Duke has another kid that he has taken into his mentoring program named Kevin. Duke thinks that he has a chance just like Jimmy does. But since Duke has taken both of them into his program, they work at his barber shop. They sweep up the hair and they clean the barbershop, so technically they're doing community service in the barber shop. Both Kevin and Jimmy have to work about 5 days a week, Monday-Friday and they have to go straight to the barber shop when they get out of school. When they get to the barbershop, they always talk about Duke's customer's lives, like how they deal with their wife, money issues, personal stories, and they always have their opinions on them. They talk about what their opinion of their life is, such as if its good and bad. They also talk like how a kid talks to his guidance counselors, they talk to them when they have no one else to talk to or to go to.
I observed that Kevin and Jimmy are picking the right roads in life, because they're doing better in school and picking up their grades. But even though Jimmy disrespects Duke and doesn't listen to him sometimes, Jimmy is changing in a way. He is changing in a way where he knows not to do anything bad, and not trying to end up in jail for about 5-10 years. I think that this is because everyday when Kevin and Jimmy spend time in the Barbershop, they learn to do the right from the wrong. Like for example, the part that I am up to in my book a guy named Lonnie G has just tried to hold up a supermarket but he doesn't get away with it, and when Duke asks what he did wrong Jimmy answers he tried to get money the easy way instead of getting the money the way everybody gets it, Working for it.

I thought this text relates to me because sometimes I would have a mentor. The mentor that i have is my sister, and we have our own little talks once in a while about how my school work is doing and if I am having trouble with anything or if i needed help with any problems at school. I also have another mentor, i usually go to her sometimes when i need to get away from someone. She always helps me feel calm and i could just let out all of my feelings that i feel. Also i thought this text related to me because, sometimes i try to take the easy way out of things like for example, if i had to do a 5 page essay and my teacher didn't tell me what kind of font size i needed i would usually change the font to size 14-16 so that i wouldn't have to write so much.
I think that the reader should feel how if they could relate to Jimmy or Kevin in any way, like how i could relate to them. Also i want my reader to know that this book was really good, and for the boys i think they should give this book a try and read it. Because if you're having a hard time figuring out the right from the wrongsor if you are going down the wrong path in life, then this book is perfect for you to read.

RESPONSE TO 3 BLOG POSTS

The first poem that i had commented on was on Amani's Blog. Her poem "That Night" was about a girl who had gotten raped for her first time, and she was very sad and very unhappy. I liked how she elaborated on what the girl felt, at the end of the poem because not everybody has been through this. I also liked that Amani's poem had rhyming in it, and i Love a poem with rhyme. The best part i liked about her poem was her picture because i thought that it had matched and went perfect for her poem, because the girl seemed to me felt sad and unhappy, just like how the girl from "That Night" felt.

The second poem that i had commented on was on Kamillah's Blog. Her poem "My Torn Heart" was about a Lady having her Heart broken by a Guy which she definetly loved. I liked that her poem had rhyming in it just like Amani's, and also i like how Kamillah elaborated on how the Lady felt about her Heart being broken by the man that she Loved. The best part i thought about her poem was that, it was a Love poem that had made sense with rhyming in it.

The third poem that i had commented on was on Learsi's Blog. Her poem "The Tragic Day" was about her Grandmother dying and how she saw her die in front of her eyes, and i thought that this was really sad, because nobody should see anybody die in front of their eyes. I liked how Learsi put alot of detail into her poem, for example she first wrote about her day with her grandmother and didnt go straight into the death of her grandmother. I thought that it was good that she didnt go straight into the death of her grandmothers because if she didnt we wouldnt have known what her grandmother was like. But since she had told about her whole day with her Grandmother, we knew how her Grandmother was like. Her Grandmother seemed like a very fun, energetic person that loved to do what Learsi liked to do.
Even though Learsi's poem didnt have rhyming in it, it was still good because her poem is one of those poems where you dont need rhyming in it and it would still be a good poem.

POETRY READING RESPONSE

The poem i picked to write my reading response on was PLEASE DONT TAKE MY AIR JORDANS. i thought that this poem was messed up because the only way he could get new stuff was to steal it from other people. He would get a gun and choose his prey by looking at what they're wearing, if they're wearing something nice he would go after them and make them give their shoes, clothes, or items they have to him or else he would shoot the person with the gun and take the items on his own.
I thought that he probably should get taught a lesson, and a taste of his own medicine because he shouldn't go around killing people for their clothes. i think that he should earn it by working and getting money like everyone else does.
If only he knew what the people he was doing this felt, and he would feel the same way, i think he would stop doing this to innocent people.

RHYMING POEM

Basketball is cool
unless you play like a fool,
you pass the ball
to a very tall person,
He passes it back
and then youu feel like Shaq,
but then you get the ball stolen by Lebron James
but dont worry its only a game.
Lebron James runs it down the court
and let me tell you now he is not so short,
so he jumps up high
I thought he was going to touch the sky
and when he come back down and slams it in
the referee calls and one on Vin
